On the streets of my neighborhood in Los Angeles, after a film shoot, I would find these plastic no- parking signs, and their square format reminded me of Instagram posts. In the summer of 2021, I did a series of portrait paintings on the back sides of these signs.
I undertook the project of creating 20 portrait paintings in 20 days with the idea that I could make them quickly and sell them inexpensively on social media. The paintings are of people who inspire me- artists, writers, truth tellers, visionaries. These paintings are my small way of creating a connection with those inspirational figures and with people who share a common connection- to them, to my painting, and to me. The world is much smaller and more fragile than we had ever imagined. Sharing my paintings is a show of gratitude for the common desires and emotions that bring us together and make us human.
