Susan Arena
Susan Arena is an artist based in Los Angeles. She is the Head of the Art Department at Crossroads Elementary School in Santa Monica CA and teaches art to children kindergarten through fifth grade. Susan lives in a 100-year old house near the freeway with her husband, two children, a dog, and two cats.
Susan was born in a small town by the ocean in Massachusetts, right next to Salem, the “witch city.” She got her BA from Harvard University, studied at the New York Studio School in New York City, and earned an MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Yale School of Art. Susan’s work has always been involved with the human figure and its endless possibilities for expression. Her work has also been shaped by travel to Egypt, India, and Mexico, and her love of the folk and sacred art of these cultures.
